It doesn??t get better than this! West Coast Shaving has teamed up with Brian Twilley from Charcoal Goods to design a line of stainless steel, CNC, made-in-the-USA safety razors. Here??s the story: Brian is an awesome guy. When we discovered his razors, we reached out to him to see how we could collaborate to create something with his artisan design at a more affordable price point. Brian was all in. So with his masters in Fine Arts, he designed some handles with some west coast inspiration, and we found the manufacturers to make large quantities at a better price point. Welcome the Artisan CNC line of WCS safety razors.

Each razor is made through the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) process. This means that every piece of the razor is made precisely to our specifications. The razors are cut down from single pieces of stainless steel instead of being cast from a liquid metal, which means the metal itself is flawless and stronger. The heads are made to the same geometry as Charcoal Goods heads and are known to be moderately aggressive. There was no detail spared in making this razor. It is truly a work of art.

From start to finish this razor is made right in the American heartland. Even the box that it comes in is crafted in Wisconsin. The walnut and aspen box doesn??t only display that razor attractively, it can even double as a travel case.

Artisan Safety Razor Collection Reviews
Great Daily Shaver
El Capitan CNC Safety Razor I received this razor as a Fathers Day gift and have been using it ever since. I have many razors and my prior "go to" was a boutique razor that is highly rated and cost about $100 more. This El Capitan is a much milder razor, and shaves best with a different (shallower) angle. Once I got the angle right I found this to be every bit as good as my boutique razor and it's FAR more forgiving. After nearly 3 months, I've yet to get a nick. Most of my razors have longer handles, but the weight, balance and knurling are perfect with this one.
Superb Razor
Hollywood Palm CNC Safety Razor This is a great razor and the perfect length. Glad I went with this one and is worth the price. Had been using the EJ Chatsworth razor for several years. This is a little heavier but a very easy transition. Works perfect with the WCS 312 stand that was recommended. Very well made and the wooden box that it comes in adds to the top notch craftsmanship of this product. Highly recommend. Fast delivery to the Chicago area.
Super Razor
El Capitan CNC Safety Razor I have had an El Capitan in a month and used it almost every day. I had a Charcoal from Brian Twilley I have had for some time. must say, it is a wonderful razor, great desing, works great..
Terrific Razor
Hyperion CNC Safety Razor I hesitated to buy this item because of its price. Perhaps it was the CNC manufacture or the basic design involving a very secure retention of the blade using horizontal rails instead of posts. In any event, the razor exactly fits my shaving needs. It is less aggressive than my Parker91R and more so than the new line of WCS inexpensive 3 piece razors. The finish is matte which is more pleasing to my eye than shiny chrome. I have used it about twenty times with three different blades (Feather, Personna Blue, and Astra) and have yet to experience a weeper, much less a skin abrasion, not uncommon with the Parker. The weight is right, the balance is right, and the thin head is a great improvement over any other razor I have used. Summary: excellent design and execution produce an excellent shave of my medium but fast growing beard. My skin rejoices.
Excellent razor for a new or veteran wet shaver!
Hyperion CNC Safety Razor This is the third razor of Brian's that I have purchased and they're all great. But they're also all different. With the longer handle, this one might be a good starter razor for those willling to pay the price as it's very easy to handle. The pattern on the handle also offers excellent grip. The shorter handle on Charcoal branded is razors is shorter and takes a bit more practice. This one was very easy to adjust to. As other reviewers mention, it's heavy since it is cast stainless steel, but I really like that since the weight then does a lot of the work for you as opposed to relying on pressure. The head is very similiar to the Muhle R89 that this is replacing for me, but does show a bit more blade. It doesn't show as much blade as a Chargoal Goods machined head, though, so it's definitely a milder shave. If you're real fussy, note that the finish on this razor is quit a bit nicer than the images may lead you to believe. Not sure why, but the brushed stainless steel in the images looks a bit muddy - but don't worry as this is very, very nicely finished. Highly recommend!
Hollywood Palm CNC Safety Razor When I first ordered I started to believe that I was nuts paying over $150 for a razor. Boy am I glad I did. I have used several razors and this is the best one I have ever used.
Artisan Hyperion Stainless Steel Razor
Hyperion CNC Safety Razor I absolutely love this razor. I like mild razors and this one is mild, but, a little more aggressive than my Feather AS-D2, which comes in handy when I have 3 or 4 days growth to mow down. Also, it isn't big and bulky which makes it able to get to those trouble spots (under the nose, the chin, etc.) . It utilizes bars to hold the blade firmly in place, and it's made of stainless steel, another plus. The only thing I don't care for is that the handle is a little too heavy for my taste, but like most wet shavers I have plenty of extra handles to choose from....thanks for another great razor................Phil
Perfect Marriage Handle and Head
Hollywood Palm CNC Safety Razor This razor is a new DE razor made by Charcoal for West Coast. I have been moving toward single edge shaving lately. I am looking forward to the release of some of the new Gem blade razors. However, I saw this razor and had been hearing a lot about Charcoal razors and purchased it in a moment of RAD. I am not at all sorry for the purchase. The most outstanding part of this razor is the handle. about 1/4 down on the handle there is some very well don comfortable checkering. There are no sharp edges on the checkering and it is in just the right place for WTG and XTG passes. Furthermore, the checkering is in the perfect place to balance the razor perfectly. The handle has a flair at the bottom which offers an easy secure hold for the ATG pass. I was able to hold the razor upside down and complete the ATG pass with no worry of dropping the razor. The razor and handle are so well mated for each other that there is no need for excess pressure from your hand. The result of this design of the handle alone is a smooth comfortable close shave. The head also is well designed and balanced. I give this razor with this handle a definite thumbs up.
